JOB SUMMARY:

BioCryst is a fast-growing pharmaceutical company with an immediate opening for an experienced Director, Information Technology who will directly partner with our Drug Discovery organization. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing strategic technology guidance and operational support to ensure successful delivery and operation of technology projects and systems within the Drug Discovery and CMC teams, in partnership with cross-functional stakeholders. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •  Serve as Subject Matter Expert for scientific applications that support all functions within drug discovery including laboratory systems that support CMC functions.
  •  Manage and mentor staff providing guidance, training, and support to optimize their performance.
  •  Manage stakeholder relationships, ensuring the delivery of high-quality work while closely monitoring project timelines, budgets, and resources. Take the lead in developing and implementing strategic initiatives aimed at driving growth and fostering innovation within the team.
  •  Partner with IT Quality & Compliance to ensure systems are compliant with regulations governing the company’s activities.
  •  Ensure accessibility and reliable operation of application and systems, even during disaster/recovery scenarios
  •  Manage relationships with technology vendors and facilitate contacts with partners as required. Stay abreast of emerging scientific technologies through research and testing.
  •  Assist in maintaining the methods, tools, techniques, and standards related to technology services, and develop and maintain IT policies and procedures that are compliant with regulations.

 

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business or technology discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 10 – 12 years’ experience managing information technologies and services in a corporate environment, preferably within the Life Sciences industry.
  • Solid understanding of CMC and drug discovery processes, administration of lab computer systems and processes as well as other information systems and emerging technologies.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies to support key drug discovery functions, management of cloud-based environments and client server and web-based system development.
  • Strong communication skills: Effectively communicates ideas, actively listens to others, and fosters and open dialogue to encourage collaboration and the exchange of diverse perspectives
  • Experience with the following:
    • Discovery lab systems such as Lab Notebook, LIMS, and data acquisition software
    • Computer systems and services used in target selection, lead identification, optimization, and non-clinical data storage
    • Understanding of laboratory data and systems used to store, backup, and maintain this type of data
    • Basic working knowledge of molecular design and computer systems used in manipulation and development
  • Experience with Regulatory guidelines governing Computer Validation, Electronic Records, and Electronic Signatures.
  • Experience with advanced topics such as AI/ML used in emerging discovery technologies a plus.
