SUMMARY:

As a Registered Nurse Level IV, you will leverage your clinical expertise and leadership skills to develop and implement comprehensive care plans for patients. Additionally, you will serve as a mentor to fellow team members, providing guidance and support to ensure the highest standards of care on the unit.

The 5100 Unit at Rochester General Hospital is a 26-telemetry bed, high-acuity medical cardiac unit specializing in complex patients with heart issues and arrhythmias. We provide exceptional, patient-centered care to a diverse patient population with multiple cardiac conditions, making our unit a dynamic and rewarding environment for nurses and healthcare professionals seeking to advance their clinical skills.

This unit offers a unique, fast-paced setting that enables nurses to develop and strengthen expertise in caring for medically cardiac complex patients. Our team is committed to providing evidence-based, compassionate care while fostering a collaborative and supportive environment for both new and experienced nurses. Our nurses thrive on continuous learning, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary teamwork.

Diverse and High-Acuity Patient Population: Our unit provides care to patients with a variety of complex cardiac conditions, including:

  • Complex cardiac patients, often presenting with multiple co-existing medical conditions, who require specialized cardiac gtts, which may include amiodorone, cardizem, dobutamine, milrinone, nitroglycerin <150 mcg, lidocaine, and angiomax.
  • Intermediate care for cardiac patients, requiring temporary external pacing wires or a defib at bedside for life-saving measures that require specialized, unit-based training from highly skilled nurses.
  • Patients with chronic heart failure, requiring specialized and compassionate care such as Sensivest readings for fluid measurements
  • Patients experiencing acute myocardial infarctions (MI) who require stabilization and transitioned to cardiac rehab when appropriate.
  • Complex cath lab patients requiring post device care (pacemakers, AICDs, stents), and sometimes including arterial lines or femoral arterial sheaths for continuous blood pressure monitoring or pacemaker interrogations performed by nurses
  • Complex Electrophysiology (EP) patients, requiring continues telemetry monitoring post atrial fibrillation or ventricular tachycardia ablations and/or cardioversions
  • Advanced Valvular and Structural heart disease patients, where our team provides specialized care post valve replacements with management of surgical sites
  • Telemetry and acute medical conditions, requiring close monitoring and intervention including continuous O2 monitoring, the use of bair hugger devices for continuous temperature monitoring, and chest tube management

The 5100 Unit provides nurses with the opportunity to enhance their expertise in both acute medical care and cardiac nursing, making it an ideal setting for those looking to develop a well-rounded skill set. There is a comprehensive onboarding process to support nurses at all levels and advanced telemetry and cardiac training enhance skills and critical thinking.
