About the role
Job Summary
The position of accession clerk is to receive, sort and provide accurate data entry for all specimens entering the laboratory. The accession clerk accurately transposes accession numbers generated for each specimen to cassettes and slides. The accession clerk will follow the direction of the supervisor while taking initiative in performing and promoting quality and efficiency within the department. The accession clerk will be trained in the expected task in order to meet the competency set by the department.
Major Responsibilities
- Receive, log, sort and assign accession number and maintain identifying number
- Specimen entry, labeling specimens and slides and printing cassettes
- Scanning and verifying documents
- EH billing
- Maintain safe work environment
- Responsible for following established safety guidelines
- Promotes supportive departmental communication with customers and employees
- Knowledge of acceptance and rejection of specimen
- Maintaining department inventory of supplies and equipment
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Previous data entry experience
- Medical background preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, and laboratory values a plus
