What You'll Be Doing
Job Scope: Generally responsible for performing field surveys and laser scans and preparing drawings to be used for the design and construction of industrial facilities as well as construction staking in the industrial environment. This work will be performed under the supervision of a professional land surveyor. Short term travel may be required.
Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
Completing project safely and within required accuracy and timeframe.
Coordinating with survey team and design team to ensure survey scope is clear and deliverable expectations are met.
Assist in developing a plan of action for assigned projects.
Coordinating findings with the work of engineering teammates, clients, and others involved in projects.
Supervise and assist Survey Technicians in processing field data, preparing 3-D models, preparing surveys/plats, and making revisions as required.
Calculating heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain and industrial facilities.
Adhering to existing standards of practice for surveying.
Conducting surveys to establish legal boundaries for properties, based on legal deeds and titles.
Establishing construction control points for use in the installation of equipment and materials.
Preparing sketches, maps, reports, and legal descriptions of surveys under the direction of a licensed professional land surveyor.
Recording the results of surveys including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features.
Searching legal records, survey records, and land titles to obtain information about property boundaries in areas to be surveyed.
Verifying the accuracy of survey data including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites.
Provide input on the technical approach to project tasks and the intermediate & finished work product to ensure that they meet objectives.
Coordinate with applicable government agencies and attend meetings as appropriate to assure that client projects comply with agency regulations.
React to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
Ideal Background
Education: Associate degree in Computer Aided Drafting, Surveying \ Geomatics is required. Bachelor Degree in Surveying \ Geomatics from an accredited university is preferred.
Registration: Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT) registration is strongly preferred. Professional Land Surveyor registration is preferred upon eligibility.
Experience: This position requires 1+ years of relevant experience in land surveying and computer aided drafting.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with standards and codes.
Familiarity in the use of field instruments such as robotic total stations, data collectors, GPS, and laser scanners.
Ability to work independently as part of a larger survey/scan team.
Familiarity with Cyclone laser scanning software or equivalent a plus.
Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and Carlson Software or equivalent.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry in excess of 25 lbs.
Ability to use the entire body, more often hands and arms, in handling, positioning, and moving equipment.
