The Team: Test Engineering 

The Test Engineering team designs and develops automated electro-mechanical equipment used throughout the manufacturing process that will functionally validate and/or calibrate these Cognex products. The team designs systems to sustain high quality of manufactured products prior to shipment to the customer. 
 
Job Summary: 

The Intern Software Engineer in the Test Engineering group will work with our plug-in architecture that facilitates production-use systems. These test systems are designed to be fast for high volume products and have micron-level accuracy for low volume precision-based products. 
 

Test Engineering offers a diverse range of projects to work on, including work with our data logging infrastructure, adapting firmware for new testing strategies, or web-based technologies. In addition, you will partner with other senior engineers to contribute to our code base and hold formal reviews.  

Essential Functions: 

• Program and debug in C#, C++, C, and/or Python using Agile design practices 

• Support R&D tasks to improve software architecture which can be integrated into new and existing infrastructure and technology platforms 

• Develop interactive software that will be used in a development and production environment 

• Participate in giving and receiving feedback during code reviews  

• Generate informative documentation for any code written during the internship 

 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

• Knowledge of C# 

• Knowledge of C++, C, and Python is a plus 

• Ability to document requirements and specifications 

• Working knowledge of IDEs such as MS Visual Studio and VCS like Git 
   

Preferred: 

• Knowledge of Linux based systems 

• Knowledge or experience with NUnit or similar libraries for test-driven software development 

• Familiarity with web servers and JavaScript is a plus 

• Exposure to vision (image) analysis tools and systems 
   

Minimum education and work experience required: 

• Working towards BS in software engineering, computer science, or equivalent
