Internship Description: 

Curriculum Associates is seeking a graduate student to do literature reviews for the Psychometric team through the remainder of 2024, with the possibility of an extension into 2025. The student will review literature related to models that can be used to estimate student ability in a personalized learning environment. Literature may include articles summarizing methods or research related to Bayesian approaches, machine learning approaches, and/or novel item response theory approaches. We are looking for a student with a background in measurement but a familiarity with machine learning methods to help us review relevant literature. 

The work you'll do:

  • Review 5-10 articles per month  (articles will be identified by a Curriculum Associates Research Scientist)

  • Summarize key attributes and/or main points of each article in an excel spreadsheet

  • Send summaries within 2-3 weeks of receiving the articles for review 

Who we’re looking for: 

  • Currently pursuing a doctorate in educational measurement, educational psychology, educational research, psychometrics, learning analytics, data science, or a related field 

  • Will continue to be a graduate student throughout the 2024-2025 academic year

  • Knowledge of educational measurement principles, including familiarity with psychometric concepts such as measurement error, validity, reliability estimation, and IRT 

  • Interest in and familiarity with data science and machine learning models and principles (e.g., data reduction techniques, neural nets, transformer models) 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • Independent worker and collaborative colleague who team members value   

Compensation, Length, and Location of Role: 

  • Pay: $25 per hour 

  • Hours: approximately 20 hours of work per month (~5 hrs/week) 

  • Start date: 6/1/2024 

  • End date: 12/31/2024 (possibility for extension) 

  • Location: remote position
