About This Role
The Senior Scientist role in the Biotherapeutics Discovery and Delivery group within BioDesign will collaborate closely with CROs and external partners to deliver high-quality therapeutic candidates efficiently. Leveraging expertise in antibody engineering principles, structure, and characterization, you will strategically guide antibody discovery and optimization. This role also involves designing and developing antibody-oligonucleotide and protein fusion therapeutics, utilizing machine learning techniques for hit triage, lead optimization, and identification of sequence liabilities. Extensive cross-functional collaboration is essential for advancing novel antibody therapeutics into the pipeline. Your strategic vision, innovation focus, and effective execution will significantly impact Biogen’s biologics capabilities.
What You’ll Do
- Manage external antibody discovery through CROs and collaborative partnerships
- Strategically apply antibody engineering and optimization approaches
- Conduct antibody developability assessments
- Collaborate with internal and external partners with machine learning expertise to apply ML strategies for hit triage, lead optimization, and identifying sequence liabilities
- Design and develop antibody-oligonucleotide and protein fusion therapeutics
- Oversee project timelines and deliverables to ensure high-quality therapeutic antibody candidates
- Lead cross-functional teams to integrate antibody discoveries into pipeline programs
- Identify and implement strategic innovations within antibody discovery and engineering
- Interpret and oversee analysis of single-cell technology data (e.g., 10x Genomics)
- Maintain clear, effective communication with internal stakeholders and external collaborators
- Ensure thorough antibody characterization and rigorous quality control

Qualifications
Required Skills
- Ph.D. in biochemistry, chemical biology, or a related field with 2-5 years experience, or a Master’s degree with 6-8 years relevant industry experience.
- Proven experience managing antibody discovery through external partnerships (CROs)
- Deep expertise in antibody developability assessment and engineering
- Proficiency with machine learning methods for antibody optimization, hit triage, and sequence liability evaluation
- Experience in designing antibody-oligonucleotide or protein fusion therapeutics
- Strong project management skills for delivering high-quality candidates on schedule
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration internally and externally
- Broad knowledge of antibody applications in therapeutic pipeline development
Preferred Skills
- Experience with single-cell technologies (10x Genomics) and/or display platforms (yeast).
- Familiarity with biologics data management and integration platforms
- Experience developing complex biologics such as bispecific antibodies, fusion proteins, or engineered scaffolds.
Additional Information
The base salary range for this position is $122,000 - $163,000. Base salary offered is determined though an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity. Regular employees are eligible to receive both short term and long-term incentives, including cash bonus and equity incentive opportunities, designed to reward recent achievements and recognize your future potential based on individual, business unit and company performance.
