Position Overview
The Associate Director for Artificial Intelligence (AI) serves as a key leader in driving innovation, strategy, and application of AI technologies within the organization. This position requires a dynamic individual with expertise in AI, machine learning, deep learning, and related domains, who can integrate cutting-edge technological solutions into the company's workflows, products, and strategic goals. Flexibility and adaptability are key to managing AI initiatives within a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
This role is based in Madison, WI.
Essential Duties
include but are not limited to the following:
Lead in operationalizing the strategic direction for ML, NLP, LLM, and algorithm development within a world-class AI ML team, working closely with well-renowned experts in AI/ML modeling, ML engineering, data science, and data engineering.
Identify opportunities to leverage AI technologies to improve efficiency, productivity, and innovation.
Work across AI and ML team to create and maintain robust evaluation solutions and tools to evaluate model performance, accuracy, consistency, reliability, during development, and UAT.
Collaborate closely with business stakeholders, data scientist, machine learning engineers, and software engineers to ensure smooth integration of machine learning models into production systems.
Responsible for the partnering on the design and development of custom ML, Gen AI, NLP, LLM Models for batch and stream processing-based AI ML pipelines including data ingestion, preprocessing modules, search and retrieval, Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), NLP/LLM model development and ensure the end-to-end solution meets all technical and business requirements, and SLA specifications.
Oversee the development and deployment of AI models and algorithms to solve complex problems.
Ensure the robustness, scalability, and performance of AI systems and solutions.
Stay updated on advancements in AI research and technology to guide initiatives.
Supervise a team of data scientists, machine learning engineers, and AI specialists.
Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within the team.
Coach, support, and provide mentorship for team members.
Ensure stakeholder needs are met through effective communication and collaboration.
Promote understanding of AI capabilities and limitations across the organization.
Champion ethical AI practices and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
Address issues related to data privacy, security, and biases in AI systems.
Develop policies that promote transparency and accountability in AI applications.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field is preferred.
8+ years of experience in AI and related domains, with a proven track record of leading AI projects.
Experience leveraging large sets of structured and unstructured data to develop data-driven tactical and strategic analytics and insights using ML, NLP, and computer vision solutions.
4+ years of project leadership experience including Agile project management, Scaled Agile Frameworks (SAFE).
2+ experience in managing AI teams and cross-functional initiatives.
Expert ability working with machine learning frameworks, programming languages like Python, and cloud platforms.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with expertise in AI/ML techniques.
Excellent leadership and communication skills to guide teams and align goals.
Ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable business strategies.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience designing and deploying Gen AI solutions at scale.
Experience fine tuning LLMs, SLMs, teacher-student frameworks and model distillation
Familiarity with human in the loop methods for aligning LLMs with human preferences, e.g: DPO
Familiarity with Agentic framework platforms and concepts. Experience deploying agentic-based solutions is a plus.
