The Team:
The Children’s Ward nursing team is a skilled and compassionate group of Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses who provide high-quality, child- and family-centred care to infants, children, and adolescents. Working as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, nurses play a central role in coordinating and delivering holistic care that supports the physical, emotional, and developmental needs of children and their families.
Nurses within the Children’s Ward provide comprehensive nursing care across a range of acute and short-stay presentations, including medical and post-operative care, chronic condition management, and family education. Practice is guided by paediatric nursing standards, evidence-based care, and Department of Health policies and procedures, with a strong commitment to patient safety, advocacy, and age-appropriate care.
The Role:
Clinical Care and Patient Safety
- Provide safe, high-quality, age-appropriate nursing care to infants, children, and adolescents across a range of medical and surgical conditions.
- Conduct comprehensive paediatric assessments, monitor vital signs, recognise clinical deterioration, and respond appropriately using clinical judgement and escalation processes.
- Administer medications, intravenous therapies, and treatments in accordance with paediatric dosing guidelines, policies, and best practice standards.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation in accordance with legal, professional, and organisational requirements.
Child- and Family-Centred Care
- Deliver care that is child-focused and family-centred, recognising parents and carers as key partners in the child’s care.
- Provide education and support to children and families regarding health conditions, procedures, medications, and discharge planning using age-appropriate communication.
- Advocate for the rights, safety, and wellbeing of children, including safeguarding and mandatory reporting responsibilities.
Collaboration and Teamwork
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including medical officers, allied health professionals, and support staff, to ensure coordinated care.
- Participate in clinical handovers, care planning, and case discussions to support continuity and safety of care.
- Contribute to a positive and supportive team culture that promotes respect, effective communication, and shared responsibility.
Infection Prevention and Clinical Standards
- Adhere to infection prevention and control principles, including hand hygiene, isolation precautions, and safe use of personal protective equipment.
- Comply with Department of Health policies, clinical guidelines, and paediatric nursing standards to ensure consistent, evidence-based care.
Professional Practice and Development
- Maintain professional registration and practice within the scope defined by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and organisational requirements.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, education, and competency assessments relevant to paediatric nursing.
- Engage in quality improvement activities, clinical audits, and initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes and service delivery.
Holistic and Trauma-Informed Care
- Provide compassionate, culturally safe, and trauma-informed care that supports the emotional, social, and developmental needs of children.
- Support children and families during stressful or distressing situations, including acute illness, procedures, and hospitalisation.
Details of appointment:
Permanent part time, day worker position, working up 14 hours per fortnight, commencing from 30 April 2026.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary: $80,524 to $109,175 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
