Job Description Summary

MUSC College of Nursing (CON) invites applications for the position of Director, Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP-AC) Program. This full-time, tenure-track faculty role offers a unique opportunity to launch and lead South Carolina’s first PNP-AC program within a nationally recognized academic health sciences center.

The Director will play a pivotal role in establishing the program, leading curriculum development, mentoring future nurse practitioners, and advancing innovative clinical education. We are seeking an expert Acute Care PNP with a strong record of achievement in practice and education, demonstrated clinical excellence, and experience in graduate nursing curriculum design aligned with national standards and accreditation requirements.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree as a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (CPNP-AC).

  • Eligibility for South Carolina APRN licensure and current national board certification as a CPNP-AC.

  • Minimum of two years of APRN practice experience in pediatric acute care.

  • Evidence of successful teaching in an APRN program, including curriculum and course development that incorporates accreditation standards.

  • Current BLS and PALS certification (American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Military Training Network).

  • MSN-prepared candidates must enroll in a doctoral (DNP or PhD) program within two years of employment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Earned doctoral degree (DNP, PhD, or related field).  

  • Experience in graduate-level online teaching and learning strategies 

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a leader in the CON, developing, managing, and evaluating the Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP-AC) program, ensuring alignment with accreditation and certification requirements.

  • Lead curriculum development, annual reviews, and course modifications to ensure alignment with contemporary trends and national graduate education standards (e.g., AACN Essentials, NTF QSEN, NONPF Competencies, AONE, and specialty organization guidelines).

  • Design and implement innovative, competency-based teaching strategies, facilitate asynchronous online learning and on-campus learning intensives, and serve as Course Coordinator.

  • Advocate for PNP-AC student clinical placement and expand continued support of the program with community partners.

  • Collaborate with faculty, university leaders, healthcare partners, and external stakeholders to promote acute care advanced practice nursing.

  • Advise and mentor students in the PNP-AC track, fostering their academic and professional growth.

  • Maintain an active clinical practice as a CPNP-AC (minimum 20% effort/8 hours per week as part of the faculty contract), with practice site arrangements established in collaboration with the CON Office of Practice and affiliated partners.

  • Engage in scholarship through funded programs, presentations, and publications in alignment with the College’s appointment, promotion, and tenure guidelines.

  • Contribute to a culture of respect, compassion, collaboration, innovation, and integrity within the College and University community.
