About the Role

AppOmni secures customers and their cloud-based data—a challenging problem in an exciting part of the security industry. As a technical writer at AppOmni, you’ll be pivotal in accelerating the customer experience of our product. Join a collaborative team of writers to create product support documentation for a cutting-edge SaaS security application, developer tools (SDK), and APIs. 

As a Lead technical writer at AppOmni, you are responsible for making documentation an integral part of our customers' user experience. AppOmni is a dynamic environment where technical writers are part of the development team, writing docs-as-code and collaborating with developers, QE, SMEs, customer support, designers, and product managers. You’ll work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to create accurate, engaging, and user-friendly content and help refine documentation deliverables and workflows at a growing startup.

What You’ll Do

• Create or revise content related to new features and enhancements, ensuring documentation keeps pace with product development. 
• Maintain helpful, thorough, and accurate release notes.
• Plan and execute content initiatives such as section reorgs or rewrites. 
• Help review, triage, and prioritize incoming documentation feedback and requests. 
• Help establish or improve documentation style, tools, and processes. 
• Adopt and own content strategy and management aspects that suit your interests, such as analytics, customer engagement, docs site design, UI text, etc. 

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of technical writing experience and writing samples that demonstrate your capabilities, including experience with documenting APIs and SDKs.
• Familiarity with topic-based authoring principles and experience working with docs as code using GitHub.
• Experience writing in markdown in an IDE like Visual Studio
• Experience using a static site generator like Hugo or Docusaurus to generate a documentation site
• Experience with publishing docs with DevOps CI/CD pipeline tools like CircleCI 
• Experience planning, scoping, prioritizing, and delivering documentation projects. 
• Strong research and fact-finding skills and the ability to collaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholders across the organization. 
• Customer empathy and excitement to help customers be successful with the product.
• Self-motivated and enjoy working both independently and collaboratively
• Ability to curate content from complex technical documentation into simple concepts that are easy to understand for end-users
