Transportation Engineering Intern – Spring/Summer 2025

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s Raleigh, NC office is looking for a talented Transportation Engineering Intern to join our team! This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team across diverse disciplines, giving you exposure to a wide variety of projects in size and scope.

  

This is a part-time internship opportunity for the spring/summer of 2025.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with VHB staff, clients, and consultants to advance projects in a timely manner.
• Assists in the development of transportation design plans and specifications.
• Prepares cost estimates for various projects.
• Utilizes CAD software (OpenRoads/MicroStation) to complete key deliverables for our design team.
• Analyzes and interprets data.  
• Uses spreadsheets and visualization tools to process and analyze data.  
• Uses and supports database applications and analytical tools.  
• Creates basic software programs to process and analyze data.  
• Prepares data analysis in report and in presentation format.  
• Clearly communicates the conclusions of data analysis. 
• Completes routine data and system configuration tasks 
• Completes routine data quality tasks 
• Imports and exports data to fulfill data requests 
• Completes routine business system configuration and maintenance tasks  
• Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and VHB policies and procedures. 

Skills and Attributes

• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to independently perform multiple tasks and interact appropriately and positively with coworkers.
• Self-motivated with attention to detail.
• A strong work ethic and a desire to learn and achieve.

Qualifications

• Interest in pursuing a career in civil engineering, or a related field.
