We are looking to add a Consulting Actuary to join our Employee Benefits team in Dallas, TX. Candidates thrive in our environment when they harness their collaborative mindset, strong interpersonal communication skills, and a love of learning.
This role will assist the underwriting and analytics team with financial and accounting analysis services in accordance with the established objectives and procedures of Holmes Murphy & Associates.
Duties:
Financial/Clinical Reporting
- Runs and Analyzes client monthly financial reporting (MFSR).
- Presents MFSRs to clients.
- Participates in development of financial reporting enhancements.
- Provides complex CLUE reporting, presents results to clients.
- Assists in development of new CLUE reporting.
- Runs, analyzes and delivers IBNR analysis.
- Takes prominent role in the development of new client financial and clinical analysis and tools.
Financial/Clinical Consulting
- Builds and maintains Financial/Clinical models to support client account teams; mentors and trains junior staff, as necessary.
- Provides Financial/Clinical consulting to clients with respect to their employee benefit health and welfare plans; Responsible for presenting financial/clinical data to clients.
- Awareness of opportunities provided by emerging market conditions that impact client health and welfare plans from a cost and clinical perspective.
- Assists in development and enhancements of new and existing client budget/clinical tools.
- Mentors junior team members as needed.
General Responsibilities
- Provides timely, accurate, courteous, and appropriate responses to co-workers, clients and insurance carriers.
- Identifies and takes ownership of problem-solving opportunities.
- Awareness of opportunities regarding HIPAA, ERISA, PPACA and all other employee benefit related compliance regulations, particularly as it pertains to client financial and budget needs.
- Awareness of opportunities with respect to plan designs, funding arrangements, benefit/demographic adjustments, stop-loss insurance, out of network savings arrangements.
- Project management of complex financial/reporting/ H&W benefits projects.
- Recommends complex strategic and tactical initiatives based upon clinical and financial data.
- Performs additional duties upon request (e.g. Biometric, Incentive Files, File compiling).
- Employs Holmes Murphy & Associates policies and procedures to execute all job-related responsibilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to understand and work with financial, accounting, math and health care concepts.
- Strong programming skills and knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint.
- Advanced level of data understanding and use
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, as well as ability to present information effectively in a client setting.
- Ability to work with detail, follow directions and maintain a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to listen, understand and address client needs and concerns in the processes.
- Excellent project and time management skills.
- Is multi-tasked oriented and prioritizes work, voluntarily extends hours, and/or solicits additional resources when necessary to ensure timely completion of tasks.
- Passes actuarial exams and become an Associate or Fellow in the Society of Actuaries, within a reasonable timeframe.
- Must be knowledgeable of and comply with HMA's Client Privacy Policy, HIPAA regulations and E&O procedures and policies.
Qualifications:
- Education: College degree preferred. Active state-specific Life/Health Insurance agent license preferred.
- Experience: 5-7 years’ experience, preferably in a life/health, employee benefits or provider organization.
