The Program Specialist Special Education Services works collaboratively with the Program Manager and campus staff to implement and monitor quality instructional and behavioral services for students receiving special education services, including those in inclusive, resource, and specialized program settings. This position supports students in grades PK-12, including adult transition services, and provides leadership in promoting the district's and department's vision of inclusive special education services. The specialist supports implementation of services for students with all eligibility conditions identified under IDEA, using evidence-based methodologies and collaborative problem-solving practices.

Job OverviewThe Program Specialist Special Education Services works collaboratively with the Program Manager and campus staff to implement and monitor quality instructional and behavioral services for students receiving special education services, including those in inclusive, resource, and specialized program settings. This position supports students in grades PK-12, including adult transition services, and provides leadership in promoting the district's and department's vision of inclusive special education services. The specialist supports implementation of services for students with all eligibility conditions identified under IDEA, using evidence-based methodologies and collaborative problem-solving practices.
Position Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Support
- Monitor IEP implementation across all instructional settings
- Observe, model, and coach staff on effective instructional and behavioral strategies
- Model differentiated instruction, curriculum modifications, and collaborative teaching practices
- Analyze and utilize multiple sources of data and assessment outcomes to drive program decisions.
- Guide campuses on use of assessment information to develop an appropriate IEP and subsequent programming for all students
- Serve as a resource to administrators and staff regarding implementation of special education services and student-centered decision-making
- Participate in campus staffings to support data-driven decision-making and IEP meetings, when directed
- Guide campus staff through the Student-Centered Decision-Making process when considering restrictive settings
- Support student-centered transition planning
- Collaborate with other instructional departments to design teacher learning experiences and support curriculum design and implementation
- Assist with campus staffing monthly counts and projections, as well as scheduling based on student data
- Support and monitor reintegration plans and progress of students in out-of-district placements when reintegrating back to campus begins
- Complete campus visit summaries to document observations, next steps, and ongoing support provided
- Assist in the development and delivery of professional learning and monitor implementation
- Assist with the monthly count and yearly projection process for all staffing allocations for all programs and identifying students in specialized programs
- Complete program walkthroughs to ensure fidelity of programming and provide targeted feedback to staff and campus leaders
- Promote inclusive practices and support transitions to less restrictive environments as appropriate
- Support teachers in Medicaid documentation and reimbursement processes and attend trainings to keep current on topic as needed
- Serve as District trainer for de-escalation and restraint protocols, as directed
- Assist case managers with IEP development for specialized cases as directed
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all federal, state,and local regulations
- Remain current on best practices, policies, and legal requirements related to special education
