Research Assistant, HBN

Summary:  

The Child Mind Institute is seeking a Research Assistant to join the Healthy Brain Network (HBN) research team. The HBN is a research initiative aimed at collecting imaging, genetic, and phenotypic data from 10,000 children and adolescents throughout NYC. All participants who complete the study receive a free, no-cost mental health and learning evaluation that also includes speech and language screening assessments. 

The Research Assistant position is a 2-year role providing the opportunity to learn novel forms of data collection from research and clinical perspectives. Under the supervision of the Research Coordinator, the Research Assistant will directly interface with clinical and typically developing research participants to enroll, schedule, and administer a multitude of research assessments. Research Assistants will also complete data scoring and entry, as well as contribute to clinical and research reports.

Responsibilities:  

• Facilitating study enrollment and data collection from participants and their caregivers.
• Assist the administrative team with scheduling of research participants.
• Conduct the informed consent process with research participants.
• Maintain complete research records (both paper and electronic) for assigned caseload of participants.
• Complete all research records and resolve any issues related to these records in a timely manner.
• Ensure a high-quality experience for research participants and families.
• Perform EEG imaging with research participants.
• Collect saliva samples from research participants.
• Conduct clinical and standardized research interviews with participants and caregivers.
• Escort participants throughout the data collection site.
• Help coordinate participant appointments for the clinical team and assist clinical team with research
• assessments.
• Protect personal and sensitive information.
• Score assessments and questionnaires.
• Assist with community outreach and participant recruitment.
• Attend team meetings

Qualifications:  

• B.S. / B.A. in Neuroscience, Education, Biology, Psychology, Computer Sciences, Engineering, or other related scientific fields.
• Previous research experience, experience with children in a professional or clinical setting, and familiarity with neuroimaging techniques like fMRI and/or EEG.
• Must be able to prioritize and multitask.
• The candidate must be willing to work an alternative work week (8 or 10 hour days).
• Must have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the regulations pertaining to human subject protection, Good Clinical Practice and other clinical research guidelines.
• Strong interpersonal, critical thinking and organizational skills, ability to multitask and prioritize in a fastpaced environment.
• Ability to provide participants and their families with compassionate and efficient support throughout their experience with HBN.
• Ability to work as a member of a dynamic team as well as independently.
• CPR certification a plus
