About the role
This Research Assistant will gather baseline data supporting a project exploring how terrestrial and aerial arthropod predators adapt to the low oxygen/low temperature conditions found in high elevation habitats.This is a short-term summer position.
Job Class: Part Time
Hiring Range: $25.50 per hour
Work Schedule: 20 hours per week from 1 June – 1 October, 2025. Weekdays and some weekends. Evening / nighttime work in the field possible.

Essential Duties
- Learn how to identify terrestrial arthropod predators in the wolf spider genus Pardosa (Lycosidae) as well as aerial dragonfly predators (Odonata).
- Conduct fieldwork at local sites (Bluff Lake Park in Denver and some higher elevation sites) to collect live wolf spiders and dragonflies.
- Carry out lab experiments with live animals to test their responses to hypoxia and low temperatures.
- Analyze resulting data.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements
- Current or recently graduated student in Master of Science or PhD program in biology.
- Experience doing fieldwork.
- Experience with lab work.
Ideal Candidate Will Be/Have
- Interest in evolutionary ecology.
- Willingness to handle live arthropods for use in experiments.
- Ability to hike and carry up to 20 lb equipment on various elevational terrains.
