Description

Required Skills & Qualifications:

•    The position of Project Coordinator requires a Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Child Development, or related field. Additionally, the position requires a designation as an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant and registered with the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners. The Project Coordinator provides high-level administrative and clerical tasks for the WIC Program, including direct participant services for complex breastfeeding/chestfeeding concerns.

•    Experience counseling within the context of an accredited Lactation Program is required. Academic background and work experience in early childhood development and health education are required.

Description of Duties:

•    Provides breastfeeding/chestfeeding education and support to breastfeeding/chestfeeding parents with complex situations or concerns following established protocols.
•    Provides breastfeeding/chestfeeding counseling and education to high-risk Breastfeeding Program participants referred by WIC staff, including Breastfeeding Peer Counselors, WIC Nutrition Assistants, or Registered Dietitians/Degreed Nutritionists.
•    Performs nutrition and health assessments of participants utilizing breastfeeding/chestfeeding services and family members enrolled in the WIC Program.
•    Reinforces hospital-based IBCLC care plans when available from Healthcare Providers and consults with physicians or other health professional staff regarding participants utilizing
breastfeeding/chestfeeding services who have special health care needs and lactation problems.
•    Handles record keeping for the Lundquist WIC electric breast pump loan program and other coordination duties related to the smooth running of the program.
•    As directed by the Deputy Chief, Breastfeeding Services provides ongoing training and support to site staff to ensure the smooth operation and integration of breastfeeding/chestfeeding services at the WIC sites.
