40Position Summary
Provides advanced practice nursing care to meet the individualized need of patients with acute, critical, and/or complex chronic health conditions or injury. Works in collaboration with a physician as required by state regulation and functions within the scope of practice defined by the nurse practitioner’s specialty certification and Barnes-Jewish Hospital medical bylaws. This is an inpatient unit.Work schedule and shifts: Employee will be working 10 hour days, 6am - 4pm, with weekend and holiday rotations in hospital based setting.
Bonus and incentive programs: Additional bonus paid for working weekends, holidays, and additional shifts outside of regularly scheduled 4, 10 hour weekly schedule.
Clinic overview: Clinic commitment is minimal requirement of team members supporting post hospital discharge care.
Team structure and interactions: Advanced practice practitioners (APPs) in acute critical care settings will work as part of a team with doctors, nurses, and other specialists, and their responsibilities.
Day-in-the-life snapshot: Managing patient care, taking patient histories, performing physical exams, ordering lab tests, diagnosing and treating patients, prescribing medications, and stabilizing patients through medical decision making. They be responsible for supporting families through patient’s current medical circumstance by providing education.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Performs physical assessments/examinations.
- Assesses and counsels patients and obtains medical histories.
- Monitors patient's adherence to protocols.
- Coordinates screening for research studies.
- Collects and records data per research requirements and guidelines.
- Develops and implements adherence plans used with protocols.
- Bills for professional services as permitted by the collaborative practice agreement.
- Interprets diagnostic tests results for deviations from normal.
- Prescribes therapy or medication with physician approval.
- Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram and laboratory test.
- Performs therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care and infection management.
- Provides physicians with assistance during surgery or complicated medical procedures.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings and workshops.
- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objective, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
