The Shift Team Lead position at the Richmond Refinery involves managing the 24/7 operations including coordinating, directing, and executing all operations in an assigned division. Responsibilities include prioritization of resources and work in the division, execution of daily operating plans to drive profitability, coordination with other operating areas involving daily refinery business, and management of the operating area’s safety, environmental, plant utilization, and reliability performance following procedures, company policies, and refinery rules.  

Responsibilities:

  • Operational Coordination: Supervises, coordinates, and directs activities of assigned units, facilities, and related equipment on shift in accordance with operating plans and instructions. Sets clear expectations & align teams with shared goals & outcomes, ensures proper progress, and removes barriers to achieve results. Communicates transparently. Empowers others to make decisions and identifies important data for decision-making. Provides prompt and accurate updates and status reports to leadership on critical tasks underway in the refinery.  

  • Emergency Response: Takes action in unusual or emergency situations to correct adverse conditions and advises affected parties. Ensures good process safety understanding and management by the crew.

  • Maintenance Supervision: Supervises the removal of equipment from service, its preparation and cleanup for maintenance work, and the return of equipment to service. Ensures adherence to permitting and lock-out, tag-out processes.

  • Preventative Maintenance: Directs crew in carrying out a continuous program of service and preventative maintenance. Ensures crew displays high competencies and operational discipline.

  • Resource Management: Assures the economical use of utilities, materials, tools, operating services, and supplies. Recommends process improvements for lower costs, greater profitability, better productivity, and higher performance.

  • Leadership: Exhibits strong leadership behaviors in decision-making, health, safety and environmental outcomes, and communication. Leads by example and takes responsibility for outcomes. Fosters positive relationships and inclusive treatment of others. Manages payroll and performance feedback for their respective team.

  • Safety and Compliance: Enforces all safety and fire prevention rules, ensures proper and safe operation of equipment, and reports any unsafe conditions. Investigates operating upsets and mishaps and prepares appropriate reports.

  • Additional items: Conducts special studies, assists technical staff with field studies, test runs, and supports updating of operating standards and emergency procedures. Facilitates daily operational and other meetings. 

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a refining or petrochemical operation, specifically with experience in at least one of the following areas - Sulfur plants, FCC/Alky, Hydrotreating/Hydrocracking, Crude Units, Wharf operations, Transfer and Blending, Cogen/Utilities, or facility effluent treatment.

  • A minimum of 5 years’ leadership experience supervising shift operations within a refining organization

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work a rotating 12-hour shift schedule.

  • Ability to plan, follow through, and complete tasks as committed.

  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated support and participation in safe work practices and loss prevention processes.

Relocation Options:

Relocation may be considered within Chevron parameters.

International Considerations:

Expatriate assignments will not be considered.
