Role Summary

The Buyer is responsible for managing the process of sourcing raw material, components, and services from suppliers based upon best overall value.  

Key Responsibilities

  1. Know and understand Bowling Green Metalforming Quality and Environmental policies.
  2. Follows and supports and Magna’s operating principles, including:
    1. Magna Employee Charter – Operating under its principles by treating all team members equally, fairly and with dignity and respect.
    2. Abide by BGM policies and procedures as described in the most current version of the Team Member Handbook.
    3. Open Door Policy – Solves issues with two-way, open and friendly communication.

    5. Safety First - Obey the plant’s safety rules and procedures by wearing PPE at all times and immediately addressing all safety concerns.  Promotes an environment where zero injuries are the expected standard.

    8. Attend and participate in Team, Department, Plant-wide and any other meetings as required. 
    9. Conduct all activities in a professional manner and positive attitude with an emphasis on personal responsibility. 
  3. Develop and execute effective bidding, negotiation and pricing strategies to provide BGM with the best value in the market for the dollar spent
  4. Assure on time delivery to help timely program completion and help maximize BGM profits
  5. Maintain purchasing and pricing module as required utilizing SAP and other IS systems 
  6. Establish solid multiple sources to ensure continuous supply and availability of commodities identified to support the needs of assigned departments in the organization
  7. Actively participate in review meetings to ensure the successful launch of new products, processes and tools as required
  8. Ensure integrity of purchase orders/records  
  9. Reconcile variances between purchase orders and invoices 
  10. Ensure the efficient management of contracts, systems and supplier development
  11. Handle tactical daily, weekly, and monthly issues with supplier and other departments
  12. Work in cooperation with the Quality Department during audits of applicable suppliers
  13. Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing processes
  14. Perform other duties as required

Key Qualifications/Requirements

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or a related field preferred or equivalent experience
  • SAP experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Operate standard office equipment preferred
  • Must have excellent reading, writing, and spelling skills.
  • Ability to read and understand legal contracts
  • Ability to read component prints and drawings
  • Must have ability to perform true cost analysis, make vs. buy analysis
  • Understand logistics impacts, etc.

Physical Demands

  • Office and General factory environment 
  • Able to be flexible in hours of work on short notice in order to meet internal/external customer requirements (scheduled and non-scheduled overtime shifts, etc.)
