We are seeking an Automation Engineering Intern with a background in computer science, mechanical, and/or electrical engineering. The focus of this role will work with the automation team to maintain our internal codebase of lab instrument controls. Activities encompass development for hardware & robotic controls encompassing aspects of building out libraries, architectural design & approach, and documentation. This position is fully on-site in Emeryville, CA, where you will be working in the lab directly on the instruments & systems. You'll work closely with scientists & the Automation Group to optimize for our instruments & platforms. The successful candidate will contribute toward process improvement in a fast paced, team-oriented research operations setting.
Responsibilities: • Follow and implement modern development practices. Eg. CI/CD, package management, etc. • Write thorough & proper documentation and commenting for all development work. • You will get to test the code directly on various lab instruments and see how your code comes to life! • Learn about lab processes and how different instruments integrate into the lab workflow. • Implement testing procedures to validate code. • Work collaboratively with automation engineers, software engineers and scientists. • Maintain safe practices and work environment.

Basic Qualifications:
- Working towards a degree in computer science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
- You will be working mainly on C# , using .net core and wpf technologies but experience with any language is considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with hardware or robotics is a plus.
- The Summer Intern Program has flexible start dates between May and June and we ideally like for our interns to work 10-12 weeks.
