Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire Intermittent Laborer Maintenance for the Office of Resource Conservation. This position will manage grassland habitat and maintain the equipment needed for this work. We welcome interested applicants who would like to be part of this team to apply today. 

Essential Functions

  • Under immediate supervision, performs a variety of manual tasks in connection with the operation and maintenance of the Habitat Team Program, to manage wildlife habitat on state owned and/or managed sites, over 5 to 7 county area
  • Maintains, cleans, and repairs farm equipment and vehicles
  • Assists with prescribed fire operations to manage early successional habitats
  • Sows native grass and forb or crop seeds for habitat creation and restoration utilizing planters powered by tractor or UTV
  • Drives truck, hauls seed, fuel, tools, repair parts, and supplies
  • Maintains and cleans shop offices buildings and grounds
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of experience operating tractors and farm implements or similar heavy machinery

Employment Conditions

  • Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history
  • Ability to perform manual labor
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Ability to operate farm tractors and farm implements
  • Ability to complete Pesticide Operators certification
