Primary Purpose of Position

The RN will provide infusion services required during Military Treatment Facility (MTF) operations. The RN is responsible for providing clinically competent medical care services within their scope of practice. The RN working at any Defense Health Agency (DHA) site is responsible for safe patient care and ensuring adherence to all Policies and Procedures.

Work Schedule/Duty Hours: Day and evening shifts needed. Personnel will be required to work 10-hour shifts. Meal periods will be forty-five (45) minutes. Scheduling is always based on the needs of the government and must be coordinated through the designated supervisor. 

Core Duties:

The list of core duties below is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed, as necessary.

· Clinical Care and Patient Management

o Conduct complete physical assessments using observation, inspection, auscultation, palpation, percussion, and appropriate instruments.

o Monitor and manage patients undergoing anesthesia (general, regional, local), Monitored Anesthesia Care (MAC), or Moderate Sedation.

o Administer medications, including opioids and intravenous therapies, in compliance with BCMA and facility narcotic handling procedures.

o Operate and interpret specialized equipment (e.g., wound vacs, JP/TLS drains, external fixators, On-Q pumps, PCEA).

o Perform and interpret special tests and procedures (e.g., serum glucose, I-Stat, bladder scanning).

o Manage invasive and non-invasive lines and devices (e.g., NG tubes, Foley catheters, arterial lines, TR Bands).

o Provide support and referrals for patients and families experiencing critical illness or end-of-life care.

o Assist with patient mobility, including ambulation, transfers, and use of assistive devices in accordance with hospital falls policy.

o Care for critically ill patients, including management of invasive lines and advanced monitoring.

o Recognize and respond to life-threatening changes in a patient's condition; titrate vasoactive medications and operate specialized medical equipment.

o Effectively manage the care of potentially critical patients for up to two hours.

· Assessment, Documentation, and Education

o Formulate and implement individualized nursing care plans based on patient needs and medical directives.

o Accurately document assessments, interventions, medication administration, and responses in real time using MHS GENESIS.

o Use MHS GENESIS for evaluating diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, writing orders, and documenting pre- and post-operative evaluations.

o Maintain compliance with AR 25-2 and AR 380-67 for access to sensitive patient data systems.

o Maintain thorough knowledge of documentation requirements and hospital policies regarding the release of information to external agencies.

o Prepare correspondence and summaries in compliance with the Privacy Act, 38 USC 5701 and 7332, and FAR Clauses 52.224-1 and 52.224-2.

o Provide individualized health teaching to patients and families throughout hospitalization and at discharge.

o Ensure quality of care issues are documented and reported appropriately.

· Team Collaboration and Communication

o Communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative team members to ensure safe transitions of care.

o Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to LPNs, CNAs, and ancillary staff.

o Participate in orientation, training, and competency assessments for new or cross-trained personnel.

o Provide thorough and timely hand-off communication during shift changes and patient transfers.

o Engage in respectful, empathetic communication fostering a safe and collaborative care environment.

· Compliance, Safety, and Quality Improvement

o Adhere to all APU and OR policies, procedures, and protocols.

o Promote patient and staff safety through infection control and environmental safety practices.

o Participate in emergency measures, including CPR, in the absence of a physician.

o Maintain current certifications in CPR, IV administration, and venip
