Position:   Assistant Principal At Red Cedars Elementary School  

Job Qualifications: 
Bachelor's degree and current building level administrative license required;
Minimum 5 years teaching experience;
Administrative experience (preferred).
 
Primary Description of the Position: The Elementary Assistant Principal is responsible for assisting the school principal in leadership, coordination, supervision, and management of the school program and operation. 

Contractual Terms of Employment: 198 days.

Primary Essential Function of This Position:  The Elementary Assistant Principal is primarily responsible for the: The cognitive (mastery of state and local competencies), social, emotional, and physical growth of each and every student, the development of all staff under direct supervision and the proper management of funds and facilities.
 
Essential Functions of the Position: The Elementary School Assistant Principal is responsible for the following:

Assist the principal in developing and maintaining an effective educational program consistent with State and Federal guidelines and the philosophy, policies and goals of the School Board; meeting and conferring with students, parents, faculty and staff; maintaining records and files; preparing reports.  Assist the principal in the overall administration of the school; interpret and enforce school and district policies and administrative guidelines.

1.         Assist the principal in the transformation of the school culture into a results-oriented collaborative learning community.

2.         Support the principal in the collaborative development, implementation, and ongoing refinement of the school's improvement plan. 

3.         Keeping current on scientific research with regard to instructional programming and methodology.

4.            Ensure implementation of the Hanover Community Schools curriculum and district initiatives. 

5.            Assist the principal in monitoring compliance with federal, state, and local mandates and guidelines related to local and state testing programs.

6.         Assist with the Northwest Indiana Special Education Cooperative. This includes processing student referrals, chairing case conferences, and implementation of individualized education plans (I.E.P. �s) and/or Section 504 Implementation Plans.

7.         Assist the principal in planning and implementing a professional development/growth program for teachers and staff. Serve as principal in the absence of the building principal.

8.         Assist in coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other school support services; help conduct safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.

9.         Assisting bus operators in handling discipline problems, which originate on the bus.

10.       Assist in the reporting and monitoring of student attendance.

11.       Assist in maintaining discipline throughout the student body; deal with special cases as necessary.

12.       Supervising the Bookkeeper to ensure the handling of extra-curricular school funds are appropriate according to State Board of Accounts and local procedures.

13.       Maintain a variety of files; prepare periodic and special reports as required.

14.       Identify the special needs of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of school system specialists as required. 

15.       Assist in the planning and implementation of a systematic method of supervising the instructional program through the use of learning walks, observations, documentations, and follow-up conferences.

16.       Assist teachers in evaluating methods and materials and developing effective learning plans and classroom management techniques.

17.       Assist in the coordination and supervision of guidance services.

18.       Maintain and model high standards of professionalism and confidentiality. 

19.       Perform related work as required by school principal or district administration. 

 

Salary Range:

Based upon education and experience.
