<p><strong>Position Summary:</strong></p>
<p>The position requires a strategic approach to the development of services and structures, embracing continuous quality improvement and technological development and the management of changes necessary to achieve organisational objectives.</p>

<h2>Responsibilities</h2>
<p><strong>Principal Duties and Responsibilities:</strong></p>
<p>1 To perform his/her duties under the general direction of the Chief Medical Scientist.</p>
<p>2 To perform all aspects of technical work to the highest standard.</p>
<p>3 To supervise and provide guidance and support to medical scientists and medical laboratory assistants in the performance of their duties.</p>
<p>4 To organise the technical programme so that work patterns are efficiently maintained.</p>
<p>5 To carry out routine inspections of laboratory equipment in his/her charge and to ensure that the equipment is properly maintained and kept in serviceable condition.</p>
<p>6 To collaborate with the Chief Medical Scientist in the maintenance of efficiency and the introduction of new methods in the laboratory.</p>
<p>7 To assist in implementing measures for the safety, health and welfare of all the staff.</p>
<p>8 To assist in the training of student medical scientists, on call personnel, junior medical staff and visiting workers as required.</p>
<p>9 To assist in maintaining the ISO15189 accredited status of the department.</p>
<p>10 To represent the Chief Medical Scientist at meetings when required.</p>
<p>11 To attend courses and meetings as appropriate to maintain up to date knowledge.</p>
<p>12 To perform any other duties as may be appropriate to the grade. As per MF-GEN-0098 contained in staff members training folder.</p>

<li>Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Medical Science from the Galway/Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT). </li>
</ul>
<p>Or</p>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor of Science (Honours) Biomedical Science, Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT). </li>
</ul>
<p>Or</p>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor in Science Honours degree in Biomedical Science from the Joint University College Cork – Cork Institute of Technology course </li>
</ul>
<p>AND</p>
<p>Diploma in Clinical Laboratory Practice. </p>
<p>Or</p>
<ul>
<li>Certificate in Medical Laboratory Science, Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) or Galway/Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) </li>
</ul>
<p>AND</p>
<p>Bachelor in Science (Applied Science) Honours degree (Biomedical option) from the University of Dublin/Dublin Institute of Technology (Awarded prior to 2002). </p>
<p>Or</p>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor of Biomedical Science, Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) </li>
</ul>
<p>AND</p>
<p>BSc (Honours) Biomedical Sciences, University College Cork (UCC). (Awarded prior to 2013). </p>
<p>Or</p>
<ul>
<li>Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences of the Dublin Institute of Technology, (DIT) or the Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) (Awarded prior to 1994). </li>
</ul>
<p>Or</p>
<ul>
<li>Certificate in Medical Laboratory Science awarded before 1997 by Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) or Galway/Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT). </li>
</ul>
<p>Or</p>
<ul>
<li>An equivalent qualification validated by the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine (ACSLM). </li>
</ul>
