Position Overview

United Health Services (UHS) is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the Memorial 5 Behavioral Health unit at Binghamton General Hospital. This 17‑bed adult high acuity inpatient psychiatric medical unit provides compassionate, patient‑centered care for individuals with a wide range of behavioral health diagnoses. The Memorial 5 team is dedicated to creating a safe, respectful, and therapeutic environment that supports recovery and dignity, in alignment with the UHS mission to improve the health of the communities we serve.

Nurses on Memorial 5 collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team of mental health technicians, social workers, therapists, and providers to deliver holistic, individualized care. Primary Department, Division, or Unit:

Memorial 5 Psychiatric, UHS Binghamton General Hospital

Work Shift and Schedule:

This is a per diem position, which means you will work on an as needed, agreed upon basis. Working hours will be assigned by your manager.

Compensation Range:

$40.70 - $61.05 per hour, depending on experience

This position is not eligible for benefits.

Responsibilities  

  • Assesses, plans, delegates, coordinates, implements and evaluates nursing care in managing a group of patients, serving as a primary nurse and/or accountable nurse, when designated by unit assignment and consideration of factors related to safety, effectiveness, competency, cost and impact. 

  • Educates patient and family in health promotion and disease management using available resources. 

  • Utilizes a working knowledge of pharmacology and safely administers medications according to United Health Services policy. 

  • Shares in responsibility for productivity and effective resources utilization including staffing, time management, supplies and services. 

  • Complies with all nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and United Health Services policies. 

  • Actively participates in and supports the Nursing Shared Governance Model by supporting the Unit Council, participating in improvement initiatives, and contributing to peer review practices. 

  • Actively engages in professional development, continuing nursing education, and completing all mandatory education requirements. 

  • Integrates nursing research and current evidence into practice. 

  • Provides a supportive learning environment for new employees and students. 

  • Will follow all United Health Services Values 

  • Will perform other duties as assigned. 

Education/Experience

Minimum Required:

  • A graduate of an accredited school of Nursing

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing
  • Previous clinical nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting


License/Certification

Minimum Required:

  • Current NYS RN License

Preferred:

  • Professional certification in a related nursing specialty
  • Relevant skills certification (i.e., ACLS, PALS, TNCC) as required by home unit assigned.
