Manager, Production Planning at Grifols, San Diego

We are seeking a dynamic Manager for our Production Planning group in San Diego. Our products range from short shelf-live products in a monthly production period to up to 2 years. The role will report directly to the Sr. Manager, Planning & Logistics and play a vital role in our mission to ensure the safety and efficiency of transfusion medicine. This position requires basic knowledge of manufacturing and the ability to analyze and offer contingency plans when situations arise that may impact throughput and the supply plan.  To be able to fulfill this role, the Manager must be able to analyze, manage, motivate, negotiate, and propose solutions. The position ensures effective planning, compliance to cGMP and SOX regulations and regulatory requirements while managing a team of four.

Your Impact:

As the Manager of Production Planning, you will lead the San Diego Production Planning group, representing our site in global, cross-functional, and cross-site teams. Your responsibilities include developing and executing production plans, maximizing manufacturing capacities, and managing inventories for Nucleic Acid Testing (NAT), Blood Typing Solutions (BTS), and Work in Progress (WIP) towards financial targets. Your expertise will contribute to the safety of transfusion medicine and help us improve the health and well-being of people around the world.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develops production plans and detailed manufacturing loads, ensuring alignment with financial and inventory targets. Ensures timely resolution of issues that impede the flow of production and market supply.
• Establishes capacity requirements and conducts risk/benefit analysis for manufacturing activity levels.
• Oversees the site's production plan, addressing planned and unplanned downtime, project implementation, and manufacturing constraints to ensure sufficient throughput for delivery and financial objectives. Makes recommendations on how to address issues requiring resources beyond the Production Planner/Supply Planner scope of responsibility.
• Meets monthly "On Time, In Full" (OTIF) objectives, actively participating in weekly manufacturing/packaging schedule reviews.
• Manages NAT and BTS inventories, develops WIP targets, and monitors inventory levels to meet financial goals, prevent expiry, and optimize throughput.
• Collaborates with Finance and Warehouse on scrap identification and allocation strategies to minimize waste.
• Responsible for overseeing the quarterly Excess & Obsolete (E&O) Process, ensuring adherence to scrap projections.
• Provides weekly/monthly analysis of production department performance, leading regularly scheduled production planning meetings.
• Leads daily meetings, monitoring KPIs to meet site goals and establishing priorities for Manufacturing, Quality, and Logistics.
• Ensures compliant use of SAP for tracking inventory, scheduling manufacturing, and creating product inspection lots.
• Responsible for accurate and timely creation and release of all production orders.
• Manages a team of Production Planners and Supply Planners.  Sets goals and objectives, monitors and supports work completion and develops staff through coaching, continuous education and directing.
• Serves as a key contact for materials management, collaborating with various departments to create launch/phase out production plans for NAT/BTS products
• Monitors material shortages participates in alternative material reviews and contributes to process improvements.
• Regularly evaluates internal requirements to optimize the manufacturing schedule.
• Leads investigations, Temporary Change Controls, Document updates, and CAPAs as assigned.
