Mercy Hospital’s 7M Medical Telemetry Unit cares for a diverse population of patients ranging from ages 18 to 100+ years old. This unit cares for patients who have peg tubes, foley catheters, central lines, and tracheostomies, are post-heart catheterization, require wound care, have drug and alcohol addictions, or have mental illnesses and are waiting for placement at a psychiatric facility. Minimal bedside procedures are done on this unit, but caregivers occasionally see fluid aspiration from joints and incision/drainage of small skin abscesses. 

 
A caregiver in this position works nights from 6:30PM – 7:00AM, with on-call requirements 

 
A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN. Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter.  

  • Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.  

  • Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.  

 
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School Diploma or GED 

  • Nursing students: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) 

  • Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered   

 
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA). If you do not hold this certification, you must obtain it during your new hire period 

  • State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) Certification
