Job Description:

The University of Northern Iowa's Department of Accounting in the David W. Wilson College of Business seeks applications for a term Assistant Professor of Instruction or Practice in Accounting, starting in January 2026.

The department has needs in a variety of areas with primary needs in Financial Accounting and Tax, or potentially other areas depending on candidate qualifications. The typical teaching load for a term position is four sections per semester. This position will be involved in course coordination, student recruitment, and retention activities. In addition, instructional faculty are expected to maintain their professional licensure and engage with the profession. Applicants will find a collegial work environment at UNI.

The Department of Accounting (https://business.uni.edu/accounting) consists of 10 full-time faculty members and approximately 400 accounting majors, including 55 majors in a satellite program in Des Moines. In addition to the undergraduate program, the department also offers a Master of Accounting degree and an in-house CPA review program. The department has a long history of teaching excellence, high CPA exam pass rates, and active external engagement with the top CPA firms and major corporations. Our faculty are committed to high-quality scholarship and service to the academic community, and to the College’s scholar/teacher model. The department has also been recognized for innovation, as the recipient of the 2024 KPMG Accounting Program Innovation Award from the leadership section of the American Accounting Association.

The Wilson College of Business (https://business.uni.edu) is AACSB accredited and offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in five departments along with MBA and MAcc degrees. The Wilson College of Business has 53 full-time faculty members and 52 staff members and enrolls approximately 1,600 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. Education Requirements: Master’s of Accounting or MBA with an emphasis in Accounting from an AACSB-accredited institution required.

Required Qualifications: Professional Certification; strong teaching record or evidence of potential for excellence in teaching; strong communication and interpersonal skills; and relevant accounting work experience required.
