Job DetailsJob Location: Oklahoma City Office - Oklahoma City, OK 73102Position Type: Full TimeEducation Level: 4 Year DegreeJob Shift: DayJob Category: Asset DevelopmentThe Director – Subsurface Innovation will lead a high impact central technology group responsible for advancing subsurface capabilities across all Flywheel assets. This strategic leader will set the vision for next generation reservoir understanding and apply leading diagnostics, modeling, and integrated geoscience workflows to optimize development and maximize reservoir recovery. In this role, you will champion innovation, guide multidisciplinary technical teams, and drive the deployment of new technologies and best practices that materially enhance well performance and long term asset value.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of geoscientists and reservoir engineers to deliver breakthrough subsurface technologies and workflows.
Oversee advanced reservoir characterization and physics informed diagnostic tools to support field development planning and identify upside opportunities.
Champion recovery factor maximization initiatives including refracs, tight infill drilling, EOR, etc.
Direct frac optimization programs, including fracture diagnostics (microseismic, fiber optics, tracers, DFITs), fluid/proppant selection, stage design, and parent child interaction mitigation to maximize SRV and well productivity.
Integrate geophysical, geomechanical, and petrophysical analyses to improve targeting and mitigate risk.
Foster data analytics, automation, and digital transformation across the subsurface domain, leveraging big data, high performance computing, and cross functional collaboration to accelerate decision making and standardize best practices.
Collaborate with asset teams, operations, drilling, completions, and facilities teams to pilot and deploy innovations at scale.
Develop and manage the team's technology roadmap, budget, and performance metrics aligned with Flywheel strategic initiatives.
Represent Flywheel in industry forums, technical conferences, and joint industry projects to stay ahead of emerging trends in the US onshore.
QualificationsQualifications
Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Geology, Geophysics, or a related technical discipline
10+ years of experience in upstream oil & gas focused on unconventional shale development
Proven leadership experience managing technical teams in subsurface technology, reservoir engineering, geoscience, or innovation roles.
Proficiency with industry tools/software (e.g., Petrel, Eclipse, CMG, ResFrac, Whitson, Aries, Spotfire, advanced data platforms) and experience integrating multi disciplinary datasets.
Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for executive and cross functional audiences.
Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement in a fast paced environment.
