What You Will Do

The North Berwick Engineering Center (NBEC) organization is responsible for engineering activities for hardware throughout the gas turbine including the Fan/Low Pressure Compressor, High Pressure Compressor, Combustor, Low Pressure Turbine, High Pressure Turbine across all of Pratt & Whitney's military and commercial products. NBEC is co-located with Pratt & Whitney’s largest manufacturing facility.  This specific opportunity is to join our team of turbine component designers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design assemblies and components to support new engine programs and improve current products.
  • Execute engineering calculations throughout concept, preliminary, and final design phases.
  • Work closely with manufacturing operations to ensure producible part designs.
  • Work closely with manufacturing operations to disposition non-conforming material. 
  • Work closely with Customer Support Engineering to disposition field questions and observed distress.
  • Participate in IPT meetings to ensure success of product designs and engineering changes.
  • Ensure compliance to Pratt and Whitney's engineering process called Engineering Standard Work throughout gated design processes.
  • Provide mentoring to less experienced engineers.
  • This position will be onsite in our North Berwick, Maine facility. Occasional travel 10%-20% may be required.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • 5 years of engineering experience, or an Advanced Degree and 3 years’ experience.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering, Mechanical Technology or Aerospace engineering.
  • Good knowledge of manufacturing processes such as; milling, turning, welding, coatings, castings.
  • Proven experience in the successful execution of tasks to meet technical, schedule and budget requirements.
  • Multiple experiences executing hardware deliveries and product designs for rigs or modules.
  • Capability to work and collaborate with engineers locally and across the globe.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement principles.
  • The ability to craft clear communication.

The North Berwick Engineering Center (NBEC) is responsible for the design, development, field support, and production support of various compressor and turbine components for both military and commercial engines.  This includes fixed metal stators and cases, blade outer air seals and supports, tangential on-board injectors, vane supports, and air seals.

Technical disciplines in NBEC include Project, Design, Structures, Durability, Aero Thermal Systems, Aftermarket Sustainment Engineering, Engineering Support to Operations, Product Definition, and Purchased Material Control.
