About Our Department

Financial Services supports both internal and external customers and stakeholders in all aspects of money related services,  such as procurement, accounts payable, and budget management. Our staff provides training, processing, reporting, and customer support to ensure DPL’s resources are used in accordance with city fiscal rules while upholding our value of Honoring the Public Trust and Strengthening Connection.  The current primary focus for the finance team is providing consistent, transparent, high quality communication and processes. 

About the Job

DPL is hiring an Accounting Technician I to perform routine clerical and technical level accounting activities. In this position, you will work with internal and external stakeholders in support of accounts receivable, accounts payable, and cash management. This will include activities such as preparing deposits, processing invoices for payment, responding to general inquiries from staff and vendors, and entering transactions into the accounting system. This position will work closely with the entire finance team to identify and reconcile discrepancies, compile supporting documentation, and create a record of corrective action. Customer service is a primary focus as you work closely with DPL staff to enhance their understanding of financial processes.  

Our ideal candidate has: 

  • Skill in mathematical reasoning and problem solving

  • Knowledge of financial recordkeeping, bonus if governmental

  • Skill in interpreting technical material, rules, regulations or instructions

  • Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing

  • Ability to identify a need, organize information, and determine importance

  • Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, and community

  • Ability to effectively use technology including email, internet, databases, and other software

Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.


Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of clerical experience, which includes one year of experience performing financial recordkeeping.


Education/Experience Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.


License/Certifications: None

Other things to know:

This position is based out of the Central Library in the Civic Center area of downtown Denver and does not have free parking. We offer an EcoPass as part of our benefits package and this allows our employees to use RTD transit at no cost.

The Financial Services team works with a hybrid schedule with two days a week in the office. 

After successful transition there are possibilities for flexible schedules, such as a 9/80 or 4/10 work schedule.
