Job Description

Miller Electric is looking for Senior Power Electronics Engineers to amplify our team and transform product innovation. Lab rats and circuit breakers, get ready to roll up your sleeves, go beyond simulation, and immerse yourselves in the electrifying realm of multi-KW power supplies for cutting-edge welding and plasma cutting technology.

Our Commercial Solutions Division, is searching for an Electrical Engineer extraordinaire, a maestro of hardware design and power electronics. This individual will be at the forefront of driving continuous improvement in our welding and plasma cutting products. We're not just seeking technical prowess; we need someone who excels in communication and interpersonal skills, ready to dive into collaborative efforts with multi-department team members, spanning engineering, operations/manufacturing, customer support, and marketing.

In this role, you'll be the catalyst for innovation, lending your support to our diverse product portfolio, including iconic brands like Millermatic, Multimatic, and Spectrum.

How you will make an impact:
Hands-On Design and Development:

  • Dive into the creation of cost-effective power conversion for our ever-evolving product market.
  • Roll up your sleeves to construct and simulate circuits and systems, directly addressing challenges across diverse market segments.
  • Take the lead in developing practical patents that enhance product features and technologies, strengthening our foothold in the welding industry.
  • Apply your skills in troubleshooting, testing, and necessary redesigns, putting your practical problem-solving abilities to work.

Collaborative Work and Process Enhancement:

  • Lead the charge in life cycle support efforts, conducting hands-on analysis for end-of-life scenarios, identifying alternative components, and executing necessary redesigns.
  • Engage in collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering and New Product Development teams to ensure a seamless launch for new products, both in production and from our trusted suppliers.
  • Partner with divisional and category sourcing teams, to identify and implement cost-saving initiatives, ensuring the hands-on financial sustainability of our endeavors.
  • Team up with the Quality, Operations, Materials, and Engineering teams to improve key process indicators, tackling issues like manufacturing line failures, warranty claims, and scrap rates.

Qualifications

What Success Looks Like in this Role:

  • Hands-on design of flyback, forward, and full bridge converters, as well as magnetics like transformers and inductors.
  • Understand power conversion control systems.
  • Work with 230/460/575 VAC multi KW power conversion systems.
  • Use circuit modeling and simulation tools.
  • Understand PCB layout considerations for switch mode power supplies.
  • Design and test in accordance with 3rd party (UL/CSA/CE) standards.
  • Work with Software Engineers to create discrete time control systems for processing power.

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with at least 10 years of power electronics experience
  • Experience with power semiconductor selection and testing
  • Experience in mixed-signal embedded hardware design including signal conditioning for high-speed/precision signals in a power conversion setting, signaling across multiple insulation boundaries, and gate driver power supplies.
  • Knowledge of PCBA manufacturing process.
