Physical Therapy Assistant Outpatient

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides various treatment programs and procedures in collabo¬ration with supervisor and other staff therapists. The Physical Therapy Assistant will actively participate as a member of the healthcare team to engage patients, families, and caregivers in the coordination of patient care. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

1. Graduate of an accredited program for physical therapy assistants.

Experience:

1. Experience in an outpatient physical therapy setting is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

1. Must be able to perform all duties associated with the position of Physical Therapist Assistant.  
2. Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills. 
3. Demonstrates maturity to function independently, organize work and set priorities appropriately.

License/Certification/Registration:

1. Must possess current licensure to practice in Pennsylvania.  
2. Must complete the American Heart Association’s Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renew BLS every two years.
3. Must possess or be eligible for Physical Therapist Assistant – Indirect Supervision License.

Receives general supervision from the Director Operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Provides physical therapy treatments for patients based upon evaluation of a licensed therapist, effectively building rapport and trust
2. Performs responsibilities in a manner which demonstrates professionalism
3. Regularly acts as an assistant to the therapist when the therapist is performing complex evaluations and treatments
4. Executes the plan of care, measuring it at appropriate intervals and seeks advice about changes in the plan
5. Provides patient education while assisting the patient in understanding home treatment and exercise programs
6. Maintains proper documentation of patient records with physical therapists’ supervision
7. Maintains the physical orderliness of the facility 
8. Checks the treatment areas for proper arrangements of equipment on a daily basis and as needed during the day
9. Assists the therapists and aide in cleaning equipment as necessary
10. Maintains professional growth/development
11. Encourage patients to complete the full course of therapy without discontinuing the plan of care
12. Provide patients with effective HEP’s? 
13. Educate patients about benefits of fitness services provided by Fit for Play
14. Maintains competency through self-study, peer review, and continuing education
15. Understand proper documentation processes for compliance and billing purposes
16. Complete all paperwork related to patient care
17. Perform other duties as required
