Histology Lab Ops Director

JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for development and management of the histology laboratory operations, conceptualizing and developing plans to measure, monitor, and improve technical, personnel, and quality assurance in all areas. With finance, this position develops mechanisms to measure, monitor, and improve operational efficiencies. The Director of Histology Lab also leads the division in developing and maintaining good relationships with customers, physicians, and colleagues to ensure customer satisfaction.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Support PathGroup's mission, vision, goals and management decisions.
- Continuously monitors and evaluates histology operations and workflow, making changes as needed.
- Develop and ensure the execution of the histology technical operations business plan, which is consistent with the strategic plan of the company contingent upon resource allocation.
- Communicates with clients, marketing, department supervisors, pathologists, management, and administration regarding laboratory issues.
- Achieve budget profitability objectives through controlling costs and/or increasing market share by effectively utilizing personnel and resources.
- Monitors histology quality and productivity.
- Maintain appropriate standards to meet all licensing and regulatory requirements and uphold company policies and integrity.
- Work closely with human resources to develop personnel standards and policy.
- Work closely with information technology people to prepare and implement IS strategy.
- Reviews cases at the request of clients and pathologists.
- Work strategically with Medical Director and Sales team to try to accommodate new clients and/or requests by existing clients.
- Promotes a positive work climate and to the team effort of the department and company.
- Exercise all laboratory safety precautions and adhere to lab procedures as stated in procedure manuals.
- Perform all job responsibilities in alignment with the industry's best security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and other sensitive company data.
- Must be familiar with and abide by the Corporate Compliance Program and all corporate policies, including the Privacy and Security policies.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work with other departments within PathGroup and subsidiaries.

EDUCATION & LICENSURE:
- Bachelor's Degree or Education and training equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology (4 year program degree) preferred.
- ASCP HT certification is preferred.
- Maintains appropriate continuing education for certification/licensure, and to increase basic knowledge.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Over five years of experience with relevant histology methods and tools is required.
- Management experience is required.
