Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, the focus of your role will be to ensure that all mine geology and geotechnical functions are carried out to a high standard, ensuring the safe and efficient achievement of mining production.
In this role you will be responsible for:
· Co-ordinate technical input into project operations including geotechnical stability, rehabilitation design and tailings capping.
· Manage the Site Strata Management system including reviewing, updating, and compiling strata related documents, procedures, and TARPs.
· Ensure the timely completion of Critical Control Verifications for Strata Management.
· Conduct yearly strata hazard awareness training with work crews.
· Provide geotechnical assistance (in consultation with geotechnical specialist) as required; Carry out weekly geotechnical inspections and distribute information to relevant personnel (typically in the form a geotechnical hazard alert);
· Compile monthly geotechnical report highlighting current hazards in active work areas.
· Monitor tailings capping as per advice from geotechnical specialists.
· Provide assistance to the Civil Department in selecting appropriate materials for rock drains (e.g. carry out sample collection, carry out sample testing including point load tests and slaking);
· Carry out stability analysis on mine designs (under the direction of the geotechnical specialist);
· Review mine/rehab designs and ensure compliance to the Geotechnical Reference Report.
· Assist with provision of sections/plans and geological models as required.
· Map major geological features as required.
· Assist with management and storage of geological data.
· Create and maintain a photograph library of strata management issues.
· Manage reactive ground testing and database.
· Liaise with and provide data to consultants as required.
· Co-ordinate quarterly geotechnical inspections.
· Compile and manage storage of external geotechnical advice.
· Assist with rehabilitation design and planning.
· Assist and monitor conformance to design.
Requirements for the role include:
· Experience in a similar role, preferably within mining or similar heavy industry.
· Tertiary qualifications geology/ Geotech engineering and/or relevant knowledge and experience.
