Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for a Principal Engineer Software – Global SW Developer (GTP) (26-041) to join our talented and diverse team. Based at Schriever Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, CO, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels.

This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a key component of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to plan ballistic missile defense operations systematically, monitor the battle collectively, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that enable an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It serves as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations globally and regionally to improve performance. C2BMC is essential for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate current and future missile defense system capabilities.

The Global Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications program operates in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The Software Engineer primarily joins the Global Track Processing (GTP) team, where they design, develop, test, and pursue innovative solutions supporting the Missile Defense program. Occasional non-standard hours may be required during critical moments, with minimal travel involved. The GTP team is essential to the mission, offering accurate global situational awareness to the warfighter through raw sensor data. They are looking for a software engineer skilled at maintaining and developing Java applications that depend on efficient algorithms and linear algebra. Ideal candidates are motivated to solve complex problems and to contribute positively to team camaraderie. This engineer should be eager to complete projects and ready to seek support when necessary. Strong written and verbal communication skills are crucial for effective collaboration, including clear documentation—such as software code, technical memos, white papers, models, and presentations—which are routine parts of the job.

Essential Functions:

  • Should understand the software development lifecycle

  • Understanding object-oriented software development and automated testing, along with the ability to analyze high-level needs and define a structured, logical approach to refine the capability into an integrated set of requirements that lead to a fielded product, would be a significant addition

  • Should communicate effectively, clearly present technical approaches and findings, and have experience writing and implementing project reports, plans, and status updates

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 5 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with 3 years of relevant work experience; or 9 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree
