Position Summary/ Department Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and technically proficient Clinical Research Assistant to join our team at Boston Children’s Hospital Harvard catalyst profile Jurriaan Peters (www.localization-lab.com) for a 1-year position. This position sits at the intersection of clinical neuroscience and advanced signal processing, focusing on improving outcomes for children undergoing epilepsy surgery.
You will work primarily with data from patients diagnosed with Refractory Epilepsy, often with Focal Cortical Dysplasia (FCD) or Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC), utilizing high-density stereo-EEG (sEEG) and multimodal neuroimaging to map the "epileptogenic network." This is an ideal role for a postgraduate (pre-med) candidate looking to gain deep, hands-on experience in a world-class clinical research environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Processing: Curate and process large-scale longitudinal datasets involving sEEG recordings and structural MRI.
  • Signal Processing: Implement and refine algorithms for EEG signal processing, focusing on high-frequency oscillations (HFOs) and cortico-cortical evoked potentials (CCEPs)
  • Network Mapping: Conduct connectivity analysis to identify nodes within the brain’s seizure networks and assist in the development of predictive models for surgical success.
  • Clinical Collaboration: Coordinate with neurosurgeons and epileptologists to integrate research findings into clinical workflows for epilepsy surgery planning.
  • Documentation: Maintain rigorous records of analysis pipelines and contribute to the preparation of manuscripts, posters, and grant applications.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree is required.
  • Area of study preference: Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, Computer Science or related quantitative field.
Experience:
  • Previous exposure to neuroimaging, EEG/MEG data or clinical research is highly preferred.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a genuine passion for pediatric healthcare.
