About the role

Our GFL Emergency Response division in Hamilton, ON is looking for a new Emergency Response Operator to join their team! We are looking for a responsible and reliable candidate to provide emergency response support for our organization.



 

Key Responsibilities:

· Time management

· Responding as required to spills including but not limited to rail, road, and fixed locations.

· Performing chemical transfers from one means of containment to another.

· Preforming chemical neutralization and decontamination as required.

· Assisting with organizing resources required in both a response situation and in preparation for potential response, including but not limited to personnel, equipment, documentation, and necessary treatment methods.

· Assisting in ensuring all Emergency Response equipment is operationally ready. This includes maintenance, inspections, documentation, upgrading and servicing our department’s equipment.

· Ensuring all relevant information and documentation is gathered accordingly and completed in emergency situations and daily activity as assigned.

· Upholding and helping ensure GFL’s high level of safety is fulfilled both physically and documentation.

· Attending and participating in live training events as required by GLF, clients and other agencies.

· Willingness to participate in specialized scheduled projects as required.

· Provide or assist with vacuum truck and high-pressure water operations as required. Training post hiring can apply.

· Operation of pickup trucks, utility trailers, forklifts, bobcats, etc. Post hire training may apply.

· Maintain cleanliness of tools, equipment and work areas as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Key Competencies:

· Physically and mentally fit and able to perform duties, wear required safety protective equipment and clothing.

· Valid minimum of G Driver’s Licence.

· Previous experience within the industry or emergency services would be an asset. Training after hiring will apply as required.

· Strong work ethic and highly motivated, with the ability to work individually or in a team environment.

· Willingness and ability to continuously learn and practice new methods in regard to duties and safety practices.

· Ability to work shifts and on-call as required for emergency situations.

· Valid AZ, DZ or AR Licence with a suitable Driver’s Abstract would be considered and asset but not required for employment consideration.

· Valid First Aid/CPR (or willingness to obtain) would be an asset.

· Courses and previous experience within HAZMAT, Tank Car Specialist, Tank Truck Specialist, ICS, CSE etc. would be considered assets.
