JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Yongsoo Kim Lab at Penn State College of Medicine, in Hershey, PA, is looking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar who is willing to embrace new approaches for important questions in neuroscience.

We have multiple current and incoming NIH projects to establish cellular cell type architecture maps of mammalian brains using mice as an animal model. Three main lines of research include 1) understanding brain cell type and vascular architecture, and its changes in brain disorders, 2) elucidating the oxytocin System and the dorsal endopiriform nucleus (EPd), and 3) developing digital 3D atlases and various neuroinformatics tools. We utilize high-resolution 3D imaging tools (e.g., light sheet fluorescent microscopy) and computational approaches to examine cellular resolution details in the whole mouse brain. Moreover, we use systems neuroscience approaches (e.g., miniscope neural recording, connectivity tracing) to examine circuit specific function in the brain.

We are particularly looking for a PhD level systems neuroscientist with expertise in animal behavior tracking using deep learning algorithms and its causal link with specific neural circuits. Expertise in circuit manipulation (e.g., optogenetics, chemogenetics) and/or recording (e.g., fiberphotometry) is highly desirable. However, candidates with other experimental and/or data skills are welcome to apply. Experience in computer programming (e.g., Matlab, Python), neuroinformatics, and/or advanced microscopy tools is plus, but not required. More details of the lab including publications can be found in the lab web site (https://kimlab.io/). We aim to build a strong research team with complimentary expertise. Furthermore, we have several on-going collaborations with labs across the world that bring different expertise, which provide ample opportunities to publish with leading experts in different field of neuroscience. The position will be supported by a new 5YR NIH R01 grant, investigating anatomical connectivity and functional significance of the dorsal endopiriform nucleus.

Penn State College of Medicine is located in Hershey, PA which is a relatively small town with affordable living expense with easy access to neighboring major cities (e.g., Philadelphia).

Eligible candidates should attach a CV including the names of three professional references and a brief statement of research and career plan with technical skills.

This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire.

Employment will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University polices.

The Pennsylvania State University is committed to and accountable for advancing diversity, equity, and inclu
