Union Hospital’s Emergency Department provides top quality emergency care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our team focuses on providing treatment based on each individual patient’s specific needs. Our triage process allows us to assess patients by the severity of illness and the needs of the patient – significantly reducing wait times, accomplishing registration immediately and accelerating treatment based on acuity level. As a Health Unit Coordinator in the Emergency Department, you will be responsible for providing a high level of customer service to patients, families, visitors and other caregivers to promote and support positive patient experiences. Your work allows the nurse to focus solely on the patient by alleviating them from having to complete administrative/clerical tasks. This role provides the opportunity to further your education, a pathway to pursue magnet and a steppingstone to climbing the clinical ladder.
A PRN caregiver in this position works varying days from 6:00AM – 6:30PM or nights from 6:00PM – 6:30AM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Conduct an in-person greeting, welcome and orientation to the unit for newly admitted and transferred patients.
Respond to patient call lights and make rounds.
Communicate and facilitate communication with patients, families, other departments and health care team members regarding patient care.
Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
Assist patients and families with wayfinding and direct them to available resources.
Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related
