JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Penn State’s Office of Strategic Communication (the University’s central public relations and marketing division) seeks a part-time research communications intern to help create engaging content that showcases the impact and significance of the University’s research enterprise.
This position requires candidates to be current Penn State students at University Park campus and will require 10 to 15 hours per week at $12 per hour. We are looking to have the successful candidate begin fall semester 2024; however, this internship has the possibility of spanning multiple semesters.
The research communications intern will have the opportunity to:
- Assist in generating story ideas related to University research, including reading peer-reviewed research and meeting with faculty experts.
- Draft press releases, Q&As with faculty, and possible feature stories for Penn State News.
- Monitor the latest news and trends related to research to identify opportunities to highlight University research and strategic initiatives.
- Support proactive media outreach efforts by drafting pitches, press releases, and social media posts related to University research.
- Collaborate with members of the social media team to provide possible content for the University’s official social media channels.
- Create engaging multimedia content to enhance research storytelling.
- Support the team in developing distribution plans and media lists for Penn State News stories.
- Provide on-site support during occasional in-person media events.
The successful candidate will have:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
