Director, Data Engineering

About the Role

This role will be the key data engineering leader for building and scaling our data and generative AI practice, in collaboration with other stakeholders that you will work very closely with. You are expected to have prior experience with highly scalable and modern data environments, a software engineering background, and fostering a culture of impact, innovation and collaboration. This role will report to the Head of Data.

What You’ll Do

• Lead, develop, and grow an established high-performing data engineering team
• Ensure that the team creates, develops, and delivers top-tier technical solutions that are of high-quality, scalable, performant, secure, well-tested, documented, and suitable for addressing high-impact technical challenges
• Help oversee and roadmap our data infrastructure and data initiatives
• Play a major part across all stages of the agile software development cycle within a collaborative, cross-functional team environment
• Partner with engineers, data scientists, and senior leadership to define and refine our data architecture and technology choices, and meeting new challenges and opportunities (e.g. genAI)
• Helping to establish, execute, and reinforce data engineering best practices and processes

What You’ll Bring

• A commitment to add  to our culture of DEI
• Experience with streaming and event-driven workflows with Kafka and Spark, and real time environments.
• Proficiency with SQL and NoSQL databases, data warehousing concepts, and cloud-based analytics database (Snowflake, ) administration
• Experience with infrastructure tools like Istio, Kubernetes, CloudFormation, etc.
• Experience with modern software development (e.g. github, CICD processes) and programming languages (e.g. python, java, node, go)
• Demonstrated ability as a strategic technical partner, working collaboratively with data analytics, data science, product, engineering, and other cross-functional partners, to plan, prioritize, and achieve company goals, ideally using OKRs
• Experience administering and implementing big data processing, transformation and orchestration tools, e.g. dbt, airflow, dagster.
• Passionate about data lineage, quality, integrity and consistency
• Experience with the AWS and Confluent ecosystems
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, agile, and dynamic environment, while ensuring you and the team are making the impact that is needed
• Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects while working independently and in teams of all sizes with representatives from a diverse set of technical backgrounds
• Closely manage cloud costs and find opportunities for optimization.

Compensation and Benefits

Base Salary Range*:  $188,500 - 259,500

*Glassdoor base salaries are targeted to the market 75th percentile for technical roles and the 65th percentile for non-technical roles. In other words, 65-75% of comparable organizations in our industry will pay less.

Annual Bonus Target**: 20%

**Bonuses are paid in 6-month intervals, aligning with bi-annual performance reviews
