Position Summary

· The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) practice provides comprehensive nursing care to women with high-risk pregnancies in collaboration with maternal-fetal medicine physicians, advanced practice providers, sonographers, genetic counselors, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team. The RN coordinates patient care, provides education, performs clinical assessments, triages patient concerns, and promotes optimal maternal and fetal outcomes.

· The RN is expected to develop specialty expertise and obtain National Certification Corporation (NCC) Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM®) certification within 12 months of hire as a condition of continued professional development. The C-EFM certification is an NCC subspecialty credential available to licensed RNs and other obstetric clinicians who use and interpret electronic fetal monitoring in inpatient and outpatient settings.

· Essential Responsibilities

Assess maternal and fetal well-being through nursing assessment and review of fetal surveillance.

Perform and document non-stress tests (NSTs), contraction stress tests (CSTs)

Recognize abnormal fetal heart rate patterns and collaborate with providers regarding appropriate interventions.

Triage patient phone calls and electronic messages using evidence-based protocols.

Coordinate care for patients with:

Diabetes in pregnancy

Hypertensive disorders

Multiple gestation

Fetal growth restriction

Preterm labor

Congenital fetal anomalies

Other maternal or fetal complications

Provide patient education regarding pregnancy complications, medications, fetal movement, warning signs, and follow-up care.

Coordinate referrals, laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging, and specialty consultations.

Collaborate with labor and delivery, obstetric providers, referring physicians, and ancillary departments.

Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record.

Participate in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and regulatory compliance activities.

Maintain competency in fetal assessment and maternal-fetal nursing practices.

Qualifications

Required:

Current Registered Nurse license.

Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Minimum one year of RN experience (OB, Labor & Delivery, Women's Health, or Maternal Fetal Medicine preferred).

Preferred:

Two or more years of obstetric or maternal-fetal nursing experience.

Experience performing fetal surveillance testing.

Experience in ambulatory women's health or high-risk obstetrics.

Advanced electronic medical record proficiency.

Certification Requirements

Current Basic Life Support (BLS).

National Certification Corporation (NCC) Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM®) certification required within 12 months of hire and maintained thereafter. The C-EFM certification validates competency in fetal physiology, fetal heart rate interpretation, fetal assessment methods, monitoring technology, and evidence-based clinical interventions. NCC certification is maintained every three years through continuing education and ongoing licensure requirements.
