About the role

THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Department of Physiology is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to perform and conduct research in the area of Vascular Biology/Oxidative stress.

The project includes studying the effects of oxidative stress on the physiological functions of cerebral vessels. Neonatal pigs are used as a clinically relevant large animal model of cerebral vascular disease and blood-brain barrier disruption caused by epileptic seizures and hypoxia-asphyxia. Placing particular emphasis on endogenous antioxidant cytoprotective mechanisms in the neonatal brain. Combine intravital microscopy of the brain vasculature with cellular-molecular studies in cerebrovascular myocytes, endothelial cells, and astrocytes to identify the mechanisms of neurovascular survival during oxidative stress.

EDUCATION: PhD or MD. Proficiency in vascular physiology or a related field is required.

EXPERIENCE: Experience in molecular biology, pharmacology and biochemistry fields related to basic and translational cardiac and neurovascular metabolic disorders. Previous research experience in cardiovascular and neurological sciences and animal models of disease is highly desirable

WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends.
