Social Work | Student AffairsThe MSW Program Assistant Director’s primary role is to onboard, train, and supervise the Program Office Academic Advising staff, overseeing the Program's academic advising activities and day-to-day operations. The Assistant Director remains current in best practices related to graduate student on- campus and online academic advising and graduate student success and career preparation, and institutes and monitors these best practices to promote a positive student and academic advisor experience in the program. The Assistant Director serves as a liaison to the Graduate School, manages the MSW Student graduation application process, including audits and assessments of all graduation applications, and addresses student problems and concerns related to this process. The Assistant Director manages dual degree and graduate certificate programs with relevant academic units, serves on the MSW Program Committee and other college committees as assigned, attends the Council on Social Work Education APM, and participates in and manages projects identified by the MSW Program Director. The MSW Assistant Program Director reports to the MSW Program Director.
The MSW Program Assistant Director’s primary role is to onboard, train, and supervise the Program Office Academic Advising staff, overseeing the Program's academic advising activities and day-to-day operations. The Assistant Director remains current in best practices related to graduate student on- campus and online academic advising and graduate student success and career preparation, and institutes and monitors these best practices to promote a positive student and academic advisor experience in the program. The Assistant Director identifies and offers professional development opportunities to help MSW academic advisors thrive in their role. The Assistant Director engages with MSW students to promote meaningful communication about their experiences from admission through matriculation; coordinates student-centered assessment, such as targeted focus groups; pinpoints critical data points and factors affecting student success; and collaborates with Academic Affairs leadership, the Student Success Partner, the Career Center, and other departments as appropriate on initiatives to enhance student engagement and connection, academic success, and career readiness. The Assistant Director monitors the ongoing implementation and outcome of academic advising efforts and initiatives to support student success and engagement.
The Assistant Director serves as a liaison to the Graduate School, manages the MSW Student graduation application process, including audits and assessments of all graduation applications, and addresses student problems and concerns related to this process. The Assistant Director, in collaboration with the MSW Program Director, liaises with the Ohio State Online team to coordinate online student engagement, success and retention efforts. The Assistant Director shares responsibility with the MSW Program Director in conducting MSW Student Performance Reviews, coordinating related documentation, and collaborating with the College of Social Work’s Legal Representative on complex student issues.
