Job Description

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) Mission Technologies Warfare Systems partners with the DoD and defense innovation ecosystem to rapidly acquire and field critical and emerging technologies, particularly integrated communications, networking, and Systems-of-Systems (SoS) technologies, to enhance national security and warfighter capabilities. Through a multiagency contracting approach, the Collaborative Operations for Battlespace Resilient Architecture (COBRA) initiative focuses on advancing these technologies to achieve multi-domain battlespace integration and resilient command and control. This includes a broad range of services such as systems engineering, cybersecurity, operational integration, and data analytics, all aimed at modernizing communications and ensuring seamless information exchange for the DoD and its allies.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Aerospace Engineer - Researches, designs, develops, and tests structures, propulsion units, and guidance and control subsystems for aircraft, missiles, unmanned systems, or spacecraft. Analyzes aerospace product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs, which can be produced with existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods. Recommends, analyzes, and supports project requests, proposals, and engineering data to determine feasibility, producibility, cost, and production time of aerospace or aeronautical products. Directs and coordinates activities of engineering or technical staff designing, fabricating, modifying, or testing aircraft or aerospace products. Develops design criteria for aeronautical or aerospace products or systems, including testing methods, production costs, quality standards, and completion dates. Plans and conducts experimental, environmental, operational, and stress tests on models and prototypes of aircraft and aerospace systems and equipment. Evaluates product data and design from inspections and reports for conformance to engineering principles, customer requirements, and quality standards. Formulates mathematical models or other methods of computer analysis to develop, evaluate, or modify design according to customer engineering requirements. Reviews performance reports and documentation from customers and inspects malfunctioning or damaged products to determine problem. Plans and coordinates activities concerned with investigating and resolving customers' reports of technical problems with aircraft or aerospace vehicles. Evaluates new technologies for application in improving design of aerospace systems. Plans, coordinates, directs, and evaluates testing of aerospace systems. Performs risk assessment of aerospace systems and generates risk mitigation plans and strategies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience.
  • Must possess an active TS/SCI clearance.
