Department Overview:
The Precollege Enrichment Opportunity Program for Learning Excellence (PEOPLE) serves over 1,300 students as they move from eighth grade to college graduation, offering innovative programming to support career exploration and self-management skills while building knowledge through experiential learning. Our programming is offered in three distinct units: Madison Precollege, Milwaukee Precollege, and The College Success Center.During the academic year, our precollege team advises Wisconsin students in Madison and Milwaukee public high schools, creating new pathways to higher education for low-income, potential first-generation families. During the summer, our precollege team hosts our students in a robust residential program on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, offering students an opportunity to experience college life and build community in their cohorts, fully supported by our dedicated staff.
Our precollege students who gain admission into UW-Madison become college scholars. Our college team offers one-on-one high-touch advising services, unique programming created specifically for our student population, and other high impact practices to foster student success. Residential Coordinators begin assisting in summer planning (20 hours/week at $19/hour*) from Early April – June 20, 2024. Starting June 23 through August 1st, 2025; (Holiday Break July 3rd-5th*), Residential Coordinator will support PEOPLE staff and students (24 hours/7days a week – salary of $5,500 in total) for the duration of PEOPLE Summer University 2025. Please note that breaks will be provided during the summer program.Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

A bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience from which comparable skills can be acquiredDemonstrated group leadership skills, with an ability to work effectively in groups
Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student body and staff
Energy, enthusiasm, and ability to motivate others
A strong sense of responsibility, professionalism, and high level of maturity
A genuine interest in working with high school and/or middle school students
Comfortable exploring issues of equity and social justice
Ability to provide a high level of discretion and confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior residential/student affairs experience preferred
Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds
Bi- or multi-lingual, with international travel or living abroad experience
Previous experience working with high school students as an RA, camp counselor, tutor, or other capacity
Previous supervisory experience

Position Summary/Job Duties:
Supervision/Training
In collaboration with program leadership, conduct residential staff orientation and training prior to program start.
Ensure University of Wisconsin-Madison and Youth Program Compliance policies and best practices are being followed amongst residential staff.
Responsible for ongoing training and coaching of residential staff
Ensure staff are equipped with the required supplies and knowledge to carry out residential duties (running activities, supporting student issues, coordinating field trips, etc.)
Provide leadership and support to residential staff
Assist and ensure that all activities and events are in compliance with student-to-staff ratios as set by the UW-Madison Office of Youth Protection.
Conduct one-on-one meetings with each PEO
