About the role

Job Summary: 

ITS has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Network Engineer providing support to the 461st Air Control Networks Squadron (461 ACNS) in Robins AFB, Georgia. These services are required to connect, secure, and defend the Digital Infrastructure supporting the Combat Air Force’s Command, Control, and Battle Management capabilities across the globe – anytime, anywhere. These services include building digital and physical infrastructure to support current and growing Battle Management Control Squadron (BMCS) mission to ensure successful implementation of BCC “Kingpin” Network & Systems from Shaw AFB to Robins AFB. This infrastructure support includes new initiatives to bring Cloud Based Command and Control (CBC2) to the Tactical Operations Center (TOC). These services may also include future services to bring Cloud-Based Command and Control software to the local campus to mature Battle Control Center (BCC) development within the Theater Air Control System (TACS).

The Lead Network Engineer will be responsible for providing overarching technical leadership and network engineering support for 461st ACNS. The Lead Network Engineer provides guidance and direction to Systems Engineers, Network Engineers, and other technical experts on the team, ensuring overall success of the engineering effort

Key Responsibilities:

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide direction and leadership to other engineers and technical experts for system development and implementation planning
  • Work with executive team members, decision makers, and stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve business systems issues
  • Designs and defines network architecture for new or existing computer systems and develops the network design documentation
  • Participates in the upgrading of operating systems and design of network enhancements
  • Provides input for documentation on new or existing networks
  • Develops and conducts tests to ensure networks meet documented user requirements
  • Identifies, analyzes, and resolves network problems
  • Provides network/equipment/specialized training and technical guidance
  • Assess network requirements and ensures all customer requirements are met
  • Translate operational requirements and user needs into functional and technical specifications and develop requirements traceability matrices
  • Develop, maintain, and track design baselines through configuration control measures
  • Participate in informal and formal design and engineering reviews
  • Conduct risk assessments and analyses of alternatives for system components and system design considerations
  • Comprehensive knowledge of network engineering principles, methods, and techniques
  • Knowledge of the associated hardware, software, and equipment
  • Participates in special projects as assigned
  • Knowledge and experience with routing and switching protocols
  • Knowledge and experience with current Cisco IOS software and hardware features
  • Must have a solid understanding of implementing ISE policies and profiles over a vast enterprise network
  • Strong understanding of Network Security and Cyber Security Policies
  • Provides technical leadership and guidance for engineering team to include Junior, apprentice-level network engineer.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of related Network Engineering experience
  • IAT Level II Required (e.g., Security+)
  • Expertise in MS Office applications and MS Visio. Experience with MBSE Tools (e.g. MagicDraw) is a plus
  • Strong leadership, technical, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working in a cross-functional team made up of other engineers and technical experts
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willing and able to travel between Shaw AFB and Robins AFB up to 25% of the time

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science (e.g., network engineering, computer science, information systems, software engineering, programming, etc.) Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Must have a current Security+ CE certification (IAT Level II certification)
