About the role

Job Description

The Bureau of Public Health Clinics (BPHC), under the Division of Disease Control, oversees the City's four tuberculosis clinics and eight sexual health clinics. The mission of BPHC is to promote a healthy community by providing New Yorkers with the resources needed to make informed and empowered health decisions; identify and treat tuberculosis and provide immunization and sexual health services regardless of ability to pay or immigration status.

The Manager of Communications will report to the Director of Community and Workforce Engagement will be working with the Division of Disease Control’s Office of Policy, External Affairs, and Priority Populations, the Communications Bureau within the Office of External Affairs, and BPHC units.


DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
- Review and revise NYC Health Department public-facing information about BPHC programs and services.
- Serve as liaison with the Division’s Office of Policy, External Affairs, and Priority Populations with regard to communications matters.
- Work with Division Communication’s Liaison to support press releases that promote BPHC's programs and services.
- Co-develop presentations about BPHC services to be given to community stakeholders.
- Work with Division Communications Liaison to support the development of public-facing educational and outreach and patient-facing materials.
- Collaborate with BPHC internal disciplines to shepherd patient educational and outreach content through the approval process and distribution.
- Coordinate with BPHC internal units and, as necessary, other Health Department programs, on content.
- Work with the Division’s Communications Liaison to ensure timely submission of Communications Project Requests (CPR), Webpage Change Requests, and other BPHC communication needs.
- Work with Division’s Communications Liaison to assure that patient and public facing communication and messaging adheres to local language access policies.
- Provide support for communication strategies to promote clinic services and new initiatives.
- Perform assignments and other duties as assigned.


PREFERRED SKILLS:

- Bachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred, in communications, marketing, public relations, advertising, or related field.
- Experience in public health, policy, global health policy, or related field is highly preferred.
- Demonstrable creativity and documented experience in designing and implementing successful campaigns.
- Demonstrated skill and comfort in the development and implementation of a comprehensive communications plan.
- Values teamwork and collaboration.
- Values innovation and out of the box thinking understanding limitations.
- Proven ability to plan and implement programs with quantifiable results.
- Track record of working effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent oral, presentation and written communication skills required.
- Self-starter and ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Proven leadership skills, including ability to think and plan strategically.
- Fluency in other languages other than English is a plus.
